Let Us Not Grow Weary

Let Us Not Grow Weary

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Memorizing verses from the Bible is important.  I hope we all have some memorized.  They can become our anchor in times of struggle, uncertainty, decision, joy, and more.  Galatians 6:9 is one that I often repeat to myself.  It came to mind as I reviewed the Mission Committee year-end report.  I celebrate all that Epworth UMC does unto others.  For a relatively small congregation, Epworth continues to make a big impact on many lives.  One of the items in the Mission Committee report was on the grocery and retail cards we sell during coffee hour.  We sell those cards in support of Hope for Housing.

Hope for Housing is a non-profit program developed by the Interfaith Coalition to Prevent Family Homelessness with assistance from the Central Massachusetts Housing Alliance.  They raise awareness about homelessness in our community and utilize the collective buying power of congregations, such as Epworth, to raise money for the prevention of family homelessness.  Gift cards for local retailers are purchased in bulk and then sold to members of participating congregations.  The retailers donate 2-10% of all sales to the Hope for Housing program.

Since the inception of Hope for Housing here at Epworth UMC in 2007, our congregation has sold $229,195.00 worth of cards.  Even at a low rate of reimbursement of 3%, we would have raised $6,876.00: last year alone was $824.00.

Please remember to buy your grocery and retail cards during coffee hour.  Simply changing your habit to buying your cards here, instead of paying directly at the store, helps to prevent homelessness.  Let us not grow weary in doing good …”.
