I love the advent season for many reasons. One of my top reasons is that it highlights the need of the church to stay relevant in the 21st century. Our secular culture tells us the buying lots of things for friends and family will somehow buy happiness and joy. As people of faith, we know this is not true. True joy and happiness comes in a life of wholeness, where right relationships are central. This means both your relationship with God, family, friends, and neighbors. As we gather for parties, dinners, and gift exchanges that is the idea that should be central to you.
As we welcome our Savior into our world and lives, there is a lot of preparation needed. This is why we worship more during this time. We have things like the beautiful Candlelight Service last Sunday. We gather on Christmas Eve to hear the story and sing carols. Outside of Lent, this is the time of year where we spend extra time working on our faith, which gives the season more meaning. I hope that you will join us in these last two weeks as we prepare for Jesus’ arrival.
