Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
– Psalm 100
As a child in Sunday school, I was encouraged to memorize scripture. We were assigned the Psalm 23 and Psalm 100 in the third grade. Both scriptures have been a blessing to me through the years.
To me, Psalm 100 captures the essence of our United States Thanksgiving holiday. We are indeed blessed in the United States with material abundance, freedom, safety, democracy, and much more. As Christians, we are blessed because no matter what we go through; really happy and joy-filled events or difficult and challenging events: we know we are never alone. God is with us and guiding us in the way of love, hope, and healing. Psalm 100 captures the joy of understanding and being thankful for that relationship with God.
May your heart be filled with God’s love as you share your time with family and friends on Thanksgiving Day and every day. May you give thanks and praise to God as your heart overflows with joy and appreciation.
Happy Thanksgiving!
In Christ’s Love and Light,
Pastor Pat
