When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart, I will let you find me, says the Lord.
Jeremiah 29: 13-14a
Are you familiar with the flower: Buttercup?
As a young child, I remember finding these flowers and holding them under another’s chin. Sometimes we could see a reflection of the flower on their chin and, by all means, we knew they liked butter. Actually, the flower’s petals are highly reflective and if the sun hit it at just the right angle an image would show up on the chin. Perhaps you also shared in that childhood game?
As I think about buttercups and that game, I realize that I haven’t seen buttercups lately. They are probably still around my yard and places I travel, but I just don’t look for them anymore. I don’t pay attention. I think that speaks to our spiritual journeys.
God is always around us and tries to get our attention. However, if we are not intentionally seeking, naming, claiming, and celebrating God in our daily lives; we miss God. God is always there, but we just do not notice.
I pray that as we go forward in our summer, we might be more intentional about seeking God in our daily lives. When we seek, God will let us find Him/Her. We might be surprised at the places we discover god, but we will always be blessed.
